Welcome to Clever Parrot
We are all fascinated with birds that can talk. Not only are parrots beautiful in color
and movement, but the very fact that they can speak captures our attention in a way that few other birds can do.
Parrot's ability to talk or mimic is related to their gregarious nature. Parrots have
a long life span and are very social. In the wild, parrot chicks learn to mimic
vocalizations specific to their parents. As they play or work together, these parrots
repeat vocalizations to each other, which helps keep bonds strong.
There are many different types of parrots, each with an interesting history and
unique personality. With so many to choose from, it is important that before going
out and buying just any parrot, you know as much as possible about the specific
breeds available.
On this site we will firstly look at the different species of parrots available. Where you can buy your parrot and how best to pick
which one is right for you. We are then going
to take a close look at how you can establish a relationship with your parrot.

How to Select a Great Talking Bird continued....
Amazons are popular because of their incredible speaking ability. Some types of
Amazons have gruff, low voices, but many of these birds have very human-like
voices. They use inflection and seldom talk in a monotone. Some have the
uncanny ability to use their language correctly without any formal speech training.
It would be hard to say which of the Amazons is the best speaker. As much as you
might want a talking bird, seriously consider if a talking bird is for you. Some of
these birds will talk human for many hours a day. When you are in a small room
trying to watch TV or talking on the phone or to another person, you may not
appreciate the distraction of talking. Amazons love music and will often sing
complete songs with all the words on perfect pitch. They enjoy opera, country
western, and ballroom waltz music. Hard rock may overexcite them and even
cause them to become screamers.
Amazons begin talking at an early age. Their greatest learning time is from three
months to a little over two years. At this time of their life, some birds' ability to
pick up new phrases and words is amazing. They seem to slow down in learning
new phrases and words after that period. They still learn new words, only not as
quickly. Unless encouraged to continue to learn words, they will almost stop by
the time they reach sexual maturity. If the Amazon is to develop into an
outstanding talker, it is very important that he receives attention and love between
birth and two years. Mynahs, especially greater Indian Hill Mynahs, are also well
known for their speaking abilities.
Personality plays a large role in whether any bird learns to speak, and some birds
never learn, no matter how long or intense their training. Others pick up
everything with apparent ease. You must be careful about what you say and do
around a bird that learns easily. Many times talkative birds have picked up
annoying noises like swearing and a baby crying! If you want to teach a bird to
speak, choose a bird that appears alert and interested in what is going on around it,
one that seems to listen when you speak to it and is vocal in general. The age of
the bird as well as the number of other birds in the same household also affect the
likelihood that a bird will learn to speak.
