Welcome to Clever Parrot

We are all fascinated with birds that can talk. Not only are parrots beautiful in color and movement, but the very fact that they can speak captures our attention in a way that few other birds can do.

Parrot's ability to talk or mimic is related to their gregarious nature. Parrots have a long life span and are very social. In the wild, parrot chicks learn to mimic vocalizations specific to their parents. As they play or work together, these parrots repeat vocalizations to each other, which helps keep bonds strong.

There are many different types of parrots, each with an interesting history and unique personality. With so many to choose from, it is important that before going out and buying just any parrot, you know as much as possible about the specific breeds available.

On this site we will firstly look at the different species of parrots available. Where you can buy your parrot and how best to pick which one is right for you. We are then going to take a close look at how you can establish a relationship with your parrot.

You will then learn how to set up your parrots optimal environment, taking into account what cages, grooming, diet, toys etc. After this you are going to discover a variety of techniques you can put into practise to get your parrot to talk, including reproducing human speech.
How to Establish A Relationship

It is important for the entire family to spend time interacting with the parrot so it doesn't get attached to one special person. If you don't allow it to become aware of others in the family, it will become very possessive of just you and will actual dislike others. The parrot will make a growling sound as others near its cage in protest. Have others help with its care such as cleaning the cage and above all playing and talking to it.

Having fun with your bird is also critical. Many birds enjoy mealtime, play time, getting treats, showers, and even riding in the car. Using words or phrases associated with their favorite activities provide a positive environment for your parrot. Try and keep your parrot's attention by holding the bird in front of your mouth during the training process.

If all you do is take care of your parrot's daily needs and not play and talk to it, your parrot will become very noisy as it tries to get more positive attention. Your parrot can become a screamer and once this action starts, you may not be able to change it. It's important to spend a minimum of one hour a day with your bird, playing and just giving it attention. You might consider leaving a radio on, perhaps a talk show, whenever you leave the house.

One bird is easier to teach than two birds, as two are more likely to speak to each other in their own language rather than speaking English to you. Being social creatures, they do not thrive in solitude. A bird that is left alone should have a mirror and other toys. The bird's living condition, including its social and physical environment, will greatly affect its willingness to talk. Be a friend, not an owner, and place the bird where it will receive plenty of attention and social interactions. If the bird is frightened, work slowly at first since a fearful bird will not attend to training. A bird that feels comfortable around humans will be more inclined to talk than one that runs away, growls or hisses.

Patience is vital, not only to gaining the bird's trust but also to teach the bird to talk. Loving your birds unconditionally leads to a happy bird. Talking to your bird should become a special time between the two of you. Rather than scream at your bird to get it to talk, use encouragement and love.
